Types of Sentences.

 TYPES OF SENTENCE

INTRODUCTION:

Sentence is a group of words that can stand alone and communicate a statement, inquiry, exclamation, or command. They normally have a subject and a predicate and typically have one main clause with one or more supporting clauses.

EXPLANATION:

If you’re worrying about learning the different types of sentences, you may be relieved to hear that there are only four main types of sentences you need to know. Plus, once you know the rules behind them, they’re pretty easy to tell apart. There are four types of sentences.

1. DECLARATIVE SENTENCE:

( Make Statements )

2. INTERROGATIVE SENTENCE:

( Ask Questions )

3. EXCLAMATORY SENTENCE:

( Make Statements with emotion )

4. IMPERATIVE SENTENCE:

( Give Commands / Make requests )

★ HOW TO USE SENTENCE VARIETY IN WRITING:

Mixing the four types of sentences can be a great way to make your writing more dynamic and interesting to read.

⍟ Any piece of writing whose main purpose is to deliver facts (such as a research paper or newspaper article) should be written almost exclusively with declarative sentences.

⍟  Declarative sentences will be the most common sentence type you use for almost any piece of writing, but for these fact-based pieces, you may not even use the other types of sentences.

⍟ This is because declarative sentences are what deliver facts most objectively and move writing along most coherently.

⍟ One thing to always be aware of is to use exclamatory sentences sparingly. Including an exclamation point every once in a while can add drama and excitement to your writing.

What is Sentence?

 SENTENCE

INTRODUCTION:

Let's start a new topic today! It's " What is sentence? " A sentence is a verbal expression in linguistics and grammar, as in the English example "The swift brown fox jumps over the slow dog." It is often described in conventional grammar as a group of words that conveys a full notion or as a unit made up of a subject and predicate.

DEFINITION:

A sentence is the largest unit of any language. The sentence is generally defined as a word or a group of words that expresses a thorough idea by giving a statement/order, or asking a question, or exclaiming.

EXAMPLE:

He is a good boy (statement),
Is he a good boy? (question),
What a nice weather! (exclaiming).

SENTENCE STRUCTURE:

The sentence follows the following structure:

Subject   +    Verb     +      Object.
 ( He )       ( Obtained )   ( His degree )

★ WHY DO WE USE SENTENCES?

Think of the importance of sentence structure – short, simple sentences or truncated sentences can create tension, haste or urgency, whereas longer compound or complex sentences are slower, and often feature in formal texts.

★ WHY ARE SENTENCES VERY IMPORTANT IN COMMUNICATION?

Efficient communication requires a combination of different aspects of English. One of the most important aspects of language is sentences. A sentence should hold a certain meaning by itself. A combination of different sentences with different thoughts will help you to pass certain information to the reader.

★ WHY SENTENCE STRUCTURE IS IMPORTANT?

Sentence Structure is important because it provide us with the framework for the clear written expression of our ideas. The aim in writing is always to write in complete sentences which are correctly punctuated. Sentences always begin with a capital letter and end in either a full stop, exclamation or question mark.

★ WHAT IS SENTENCE FORMATION?

A sentence is a meaningful collection of words. However, with the rules of grammar in mind, we can say that a sentence is a group of words that has a subject, a verb, and an object. In English, this is known as the SVO structure or the Subject-Verb-Object structure.

IMPORTANCE OF PARTS OF SPEECH

IMPORTANCE OF PARTS OF SPEECH:

Theoretically, understanding the parts of speech in English grammar is very important because they have an important role to form a sentence so that it is coherent and in accordance with the grammar of the sentence.

WHY IT IS IMPORTANT TO KNOW THE 8 PARTS OF SPEECH?

Understanding the 8 parts of speech is beneficial for analyzing the meaning of each word. By learning the 8 parts of speech, you can easily identify a grammatical problem in the sentence, and see whether there is a run-on sentence, a misused pronoun or a problem of the verb agreement.

★ Parts of speech are essential to being able to use other grammar in a new language. Students will need to be able to identify and manipulate parts of speech in order to conjugate verbs.

★ This is particularly important for verb agreement, which is a common problem for ESL learners.

WHAT IS THE MOST IMPORTANT PARTS OF SPEECH?

VERB

This is the most important part of a speech, for without a verb, a sentence would not exist. Simply put, this is a word that shows an action (physical or mental) or state of being of the subject in a sentence.

HOW DO YOU ASSESS PARTS OF SPEECH?

⍟ To identify different parts of speech, analyze the function that the word plays in a sentence.

⍟ If the word names a person, place, thing, or idea, it is a Noun.

⍟ Label a word as a Pronoun if it takes the place of a Noun.

⍟ If you see a word that expresses an action, that is a Verb, and words that modify a verb are Adverbs.

Parts Of Speech

PARTS OF SPEECH

INTRODUCTION:

In traditional grammar, a part of speech or part-of-speech is a category of words that have similar grammatical properties. In the English language, every word is called a part of speech. The role a word plays in a sentence denotes what part of speech it belongs to.

WHAT IS A PARTS OF SPEECH?

Parts of speech are among the first grammar topics we learn when we are in school or when we start our English language learning process. Parts of speech can be defined as words that perform different roles in a sentence. Some parts of speech can perform the functions of other parts of speech too.

DEFINITION:

The definition of a part of speech is a class of words based on the word's function, the way it works in a sentence. The parts of speech are noun, verb, adjective, adverb, pronoun, preposition, conjunction, and interjection.

FREQUENCY OF PARTS OF SPEECH:

It's quite important to recognize parts of speech. This helps you to analyze sentences and understand them. It also helps you to construct good sentences. The parts of speech fall into two word classes:
open and closed.

OPEN WORD CLASSES:

Open word classes are parts of speech that regularly acquire new words. Language evolves, and usually, evolution happens in these parts of speech: nouns, adjectives, adverbs, and verbs.

CLOSED WORD CLASSES:

Closed word classes are the parts of speech that don’t regularly add new words. These parts of speech are more “set in stone” and include pronouns, conjunctions, articles, and prepositions.
