SENTENCE
INTRODUCTION:
Let's start a new topic today! It's " What is sentence? " A sentence is a verbal expression in linguistics and grammar, as in the English example "The swift brown fox jumps over the slow dog." It is often described in conventional grammar as a group of words that conveys a full notion or as a unit made up of a subject and predicate.
DEFINITION:
A sentence is the largest unit of any language. The sentence is generally defined as a word or a group of words that expresses a thorough idea by giving a statement/order, or asking a question, or exclaiming.
EXAMPLE:
He is a good boy (statement),
Is he a good boy? (question),
What a nice weather! (exclaiming).
SENTENCE STRUCTURE:
The sentence follows the following structure:
Subject + Verb + Object.
( He ) ( Obtained ) ( His degree )
★ WHY DO WE USE SENTENCES?
Think of the importance of sentence structure – short, simple sentences or truncated sentences can create tension, haste or urgency, whereas longer compound or complex sentences are slower, and often feature in formal texts.
★ WHY ARE SENTENCES VERY IMPORTANT IN COMMUNICATION?
Efficient communication requires a combination of different aspects of English. One of the most important aspects of language is sentences. A sentence should hold a certain meaning by itself. A combination of different sentences with different thoughts will help you to pass certain information to the reader.
★ WHY SENTENCE STRUCTURE IS IMPORTANT?
Sentence Structure is important because it provide us with the framework for the clear written expression of our ideas. The aim in writing is always to write in complete sentences which are correctly punctuated. Sentences always begin with a capital letter and end in either a full stop, exclamation or question mark.
★ WHAT IS SENTENCE FORMATION?
A sentence is a meaningful collection of words. However, with the rules of grammar in mind, we can say that a sentence is a group of words that has a subject, a verb, and an object. In English, this is known as the SVO structure or the Subject-Verb-Object structure.
