12 TYPES OF TENSES
INTRODUCTION:
Tense communicates an event's location in time. The different tenses are identified by their associated verb forms. There are three main tenses: past, present, and future. In English, each of these tenses can take four main aspects: simple, perfect, continuous (also known as progressive), and perfect continuous. In total, there are 12 verb tenses in English, plus conditional tenses that talk about an action that may or did not happen. There are a few tenses in English that are very rarely used nowadays, like the future perfect and future perfect continuous.
Here is a list of 12 Types of Tenses which are used in English. Let's discuss them one by one by the sequence of past, present and future.
PAST TENSE:
The four Aspects of past tense are:
1. Past Simple Tense.
2. Past Progressive Tense.
3. Past Perfect Tense.
4. Past Perfect Progressive Tense.
PRESENT TENSE:
The four Aspects of present tense are:
1. Present Simple Tense.
2. Present Progressive Tense.
3. Present Perfect Tense.
4. Present Perfect Progressive Tense.
FUTURE TENSE:
The four Aspects of future tense are:
1. Future Simple Tense.
2. Future Progressive Tense.
